Antique hand-colored map of Africa, copyrighted 1839, from Mitchell's School and Family Geography, published by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co. in 1851. Colored by region with cities labeled. Shows topographical detail, a large Unexplored Region, including the non-existent "Mountains of the Moon." Features annotations regarding historical facts, distances between other continents, mountain heights, etc. Inset maps No. 26 Map of Egypt and No. 27 Map of Liberia. Good condition with minor toning, some spots mostly in the margin, archivally repaired tear at top left. Approx. 10.75 x 8.25 inches to the neatline.
