Genuine Antique Uncolored Map

1683

Maker: Mallet.

Antique uncolored map of Mexico and Central America by Mallet, published in 1683. This interesting small map shows Baja California labeled as an island, and what is now Texas is labeled Florida. Louisiane (Louisiana) appears to encompass the majority of what is now the US. Includes a decorative cartouche, an apparent battle at sea, and an illustration of native peoples. A very interesting early map of the area! Very good condition with some plate smudges from the printing and the text on the back is slightly visible. Measures approx. 5.75 x 4 inches to the neatline and 8.25 x 5.5 inches to the paper edges.
