Antique hand-colored map, from S. Augustus Mitchell's "A New Universal Atlas, Containing Maps of the Various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics of the World, With a Special Map of Each of the United States, Plans of Cities, etc.", 1849. Early county boundaries. Texas became a state in 1845, just a few years before this map was published. Inset map shows Northern Texas, which at this point encompasses Santa Fe, Taos, and even stretched up towards Pike's Peak. Very good overall antique condition, with mild toning, some minor spots and soiling. Very slight discoloration at left where the pink coloring of the border bled into the yellow. Measures approx. 12 x 15 inches to the neatline.
