Antique map of the Caribbean by Willem Blaeu, circa 1642. This map shows the coast of North America from the Chesapeake to the north part of South America. It includes the Antilles or West Indies, Hispaniola, Cuba, Porto Rico, the Bahamas (looking enlarged), Florida, Mexico as Novae Hispaniae, Central America with the wets coast, and more. The map is richly adorned with three lovely cartouches that feature putti, snakes, a turtle, a bat, and lizards, sailing ships, rhumb lines and compass roses. Dutch text on verso, published between 1642-64. Very good restored condition. This map has been cleaned, deacidified, and backed. Some paper loss has been repaired and infilled in the upper corners and tears closed. Measures approx. 15 x 20.5 inches to the neatline.
