Genuine Antique Map

1944

Maker: American Airlines

Antique map of the world published by American Airlines in 1944. This map shows an unusual view of the world with the United States at the very center and the rest of the globe stretched around it, with specific cities marked and lines of airplanes to each location. This might indicate American Airlines flights to many of these locations, but probably not to the North or South Pole! The map is flanked by illustrations showing the gathering or processing of raw materials needed for the "Air Age." Text at bottom explains the map and illustrations. A fascinating map from the early days of commercial aviation! With folds as issued. Good antique condition with some signs of age including a small hole, some wear at the paper edges, and some wear along the folds. Measures approx. 22.75 x 34 inches to the paper edges.
