Unusual map of the entire world, by Mathew Carey, 1796, from "The General Atlas for Carey's Edition of Guthrie's Geography Improved". This map shows the location of Quivira, in northern California, the mythical City of Gold, as well as the details of the voyages of Captain, his routes and discoveries; Tasmania is included as part of Australia; the map includes rudimentary information about Antarctica and significant detail of Africa, and an interesting view of the major Asian rivers. The United States is shown in its early configuration immediately after the American Revolution. Very good overall antique condition, matted, map measures 21 x 12 inches.*****SOLD******
