Figuier was the name given by Buffon and Cuvier to various species of Warblers and to several other passerines unrelated to each other, which they grouped together in a distinct genus. Martinet worked with a team of people to create this encyclopedic book on ornithology, which took years to complete. It was originally issued in 42 cahiers of 24 hand-colored plates each, with no accompanying text or titles, resulting in 1008 plates. The book included carefully detailed prints of birds from around the world. Original hand-coloring. Very good condition with some minor waviness\/wrinkles in the antique paper. Copper plate print on laid paper.
