Genuine Antique Illustration

1876

Maker: Everts, Ensign & Everts.

Rare antique engraved illustration of the New York Inebriate Asylum, from the Broome County Atlas, 1876. Clear, beautifully detailed image of the castle like building and surrounding landscape, with river, railroad bridge and train in the foreground, fields and rolling hills in the background. This unusual building housed the first institution to treat alcoholism as a disease, and is still extant, soon to be renovated and repurposed, the historic Binghamton "Castle" will serve as a campus for SUNY Upstate Medical University. Very good overall antique condition, approx. 15.75 x 24.75 inches. **SOLD**
