Genuine Antique printed color map

1891

Maker: Bien.

Printed color antique map by Julius Bien & Co. at the turn of the century, part of a series of maps of the nation as it was torn apart during the Civil War; titled "Map of the United States of America, Showing the Boundaries of the Union and Confederate Geographical Divisions and Departments, June 30, 1864", from the "Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, 1861-65," the map shows the positions of the Union (Meade and Sherman) and Confederate (Lee and Johnston) armies, and the fact that by the middle of 1864 the Yankees were making headway in their fight to preserve the union ; as a whole, the series also clearly charts a young and growing nation, including railroads, mail routes, the Pony Express route, the Oregon Trail, military headquarters, and topographical features. Very good overall antique condition, with minor toning, measures approx. 16.5 x 27.75 inches.
