Levasseur's Maps of France

Francophiles will delight in the gorgeous maps published in the Atlas National Illustre des 86 Departments et des Possessions de la France, Divise par Arrondissements, Cantons et Communea, by Victor Jules Levasseur. These atlases were first published in 1845 with additional published editions through the 1850s. The most striking of his maps depict the many departments of France with stunning illustrated borders around a map of the department that has minimal line coloring done by hand. The borders often feature notable local history and products related to the department.
