Antique black and white map of Africa, written in French, by Robert de Vaugondy, 1766. Much of the center of Africa was not explored at this time and Lake Victoria was not only not yet discovered, but not even imagined - the Nile reaches far to the north of its true source. Includes topographical detail. Visible plate mark. Very good condition with some overall toning, and some areas with mild smudging of the ink. Measures approximately 6.25" x 7.75" to the neatline.
