Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map

1844

Maker: Robinson / Olney.

Antique hand colored map of Africa, published in Olney's School Geography in 1844 by Robinson. This neat map of Africa features "Unexplored Regions" below the "Gebel el Kumri or Mountains of the Moon" and within those unexplored areas lies Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile that had not yet been discovered by Westerners. The map also indicates populations, distances, some historical events, and symbols that appear to indicate the type of ruler ship or the religion. Inset map of Liberia and Sierra Leone. Good antique condition with a few spots in the margins, some edge wear, and light toning. Measures approx. 8.5 x 10.75 inches to the neatline.
