Antique hand colored map of Africa with an inset map of the coast of Liberia. By Mitchell, Published in "Mitchell's School and Family Geography," 1839. Shows topographical detail, including the non-existent "Mountains of the Moon." Features annotations regarding historical facts, distances between other continents, mountain heights, etc.. Fair to good antique condition with overall toning and areas of heavy foxing, as well as some markings from a previous owner of the map. Measures approximately 8" x 10.25" to the neatline.
