1775
Maker: De Fer
Antique map of the Lyon area of France, from a composite atlas circa 1775. The regions of Lyonnais, Forez, Beaujolais, Auvergne (Upper and Lower), and Bourbonnais were historic provinces of France. These areas are now the departments of Rhône, Loire, Cantal, Puy-de-Dôme, and Allier. A composite atlas is an atlas made up of a selection of previously issued maps. This atlas appears to have been partly by Louis Charles Desnos and an atlas title page dated 1769 by Desnos was present. The full title translates to "The Provinces and Governments of Lionnois, Forez and Beaujelois of Upper and Lower Auvergne and Bourbonois. Corrected and enhanced on the new observations of the Royal Academy of Serenenk." This map has original hand-coloring and shows cities, towns, villages, rivers, topographic detail, etc. Very good restored condition. This map has been archivally cleaned, deacidified, and backed. It retains some minor signs of age mostly in the margins. Measures approx. 19 x 24.25 inches to the neatline.
