Antique map of Jaca, Spain, by Blaeu, c. 1665. This map was published in Blaeu's renowned "Atlas Maior," which is celebrated for its comprehensive coverage, detailed engraving, vivid color, and high-quality production. This map shows Jaca in the center with the surrounding area. Decorative cartouche and scale of distance include numerous putti. Jaca is a city in the Pyrenees mountains of northeast Spain, near the French border. It’s known for the 16th-century Ciudadela de Jaca, the 11th-century San Pedro Cathedral and a 15th-century clock tower. The city is a stop along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Hand-colored, this map appears to have some original color and some later color. Very good antique condition, with overall toning, some tiny spots, and some wear and tear at the edges that do not interfere with the map. Measures approx. 15 x 19.5 inches to the neatline.
