1638
Maker: Tassin
Antique map of the coast of France from near Marseille to Nice, by Tassin, 1638. This rare map was published as a three-sheet set showing the coast from Port-de-Bouc to Nice. This item is a partial map, showing as far as Aix in the west, and missing a few inches on the left side. It is not unusual to find this map as a partial map. Regardless of the missing portion, it is a handsome and collectible map. It includes Antibes, Cannes, Frejus, Hyeres, Toulon, La Ciotat, Sainte-Baume (now a Natural Regional Park), Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, and more, with topography. It features three monsters in the waters, four monsters in the scale of miles, two mermaids and some monster faces in the cartouche, twelve different ships sailing in the Mediterranean, and two compass roses. It is in very good restored condition. This map has been cleaned, deacidified, and backed for structural integrity. Signs of age are still visible, including folds, separations, tears, some paper loss north of Frejus, and margins extended. See photos and please contact us with any questions. Measures 20.5 x 32 inches to the border/image edges, and 22.5 x 36.5 inches to the sheet edges.
