Genuine Antique Print

1719

Maker: Kip

Antique print of Knowlton Court in Kent, England. By Johannes Kip, published in "The History of Kent", by John Harris, 1719.  Lees Court was built c.1652 for George Sondes, 1st Earl of Feversham, but destroyed entirely by fire in November 1910 and painstakingly rebuilt in 1912. The estate, once covering 85,000 acres today covers only 6,900 acres. John Harris was an English writer, scientist, and Anglican priest. This is one of the most attractively illustrated histories of the county of Kent and he intended to write five volumes. The first was 8 years in the writing and was published posthumously. Harris died insolvent and his work on the second volume was never found. Print measures approx. 13.5 x 16.5 inches to the neatline. Good condition with center fold as issued, some small spots, and a repair at the center front that goes slightly into the image..

This print could be colored by our professional colorist for an additional cost. Please contact us if interested in purchasing this print with color.
