1787
Maker: Bonne.
Antique uncolored map of Tahiti by Bonne, published in 1787. As noted in the upper left corner, this map was created as a result of Captain Cook's first voyage. The larger portion of Tahiti is labeled "Opoureonu or O-Taiti nue" and the smaller portion is labeled "Tiarrabou or O-Taiti ete". There are three inset maps: Baye Matavai dans O-Taiti, Plan des Havres, and Carte des Marquises de Mendoce. A note on the right side says that the depths are in English measurements, which were different from French measurements- 8 English depth measurements equal 9 French depth measurements. Very good antique condition with mild toning and a few small spots. Approx. 9.25 x 13.5 inches to the neatlines.
