Genuine Antique Map

1787

Maker: Bonne and Desmarest.

Antique uncolored map showing part of the Solomon Islands, located east of Papua New Guinea, after Captain Cook's voyages of 1778 and 1779, by Bonne and Desmarest, published in the 1787 Atlas Encyclopedique. The larger central island is Nendö Island (Solomon Islands): Formerly named "Lord Egmont's Island" by British explorer Philip Carteret in 1767. Interestingly, Captain George Dixon was doing a survey of the islands in the year this atlas was published. Includes inset maps of several islands and bays that are part of the area. Very good condition with light image transfer, and a few light spots/stains. Approx. 9.25 x 13.5 inches to the neatlines.
