Genuine Antique Map

1791

Maker: Isaiah Thomas/Massachusetts Magazine.

Antique uncolored map showing eastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Plymouth, Boston, Cape Ann, and Narragansett. This is a rare antique map which appeared in the Massachusetts Magazine, published by Isaiah Thomas. This "Magazine" had a limited circulation and is considered by collectors to be quite rare. The map was published to illustrate a proposal for a canal from Barnstable Bay (Cape Cod Bay) to Buzzards Bay at Sandwich. It was the first map printed in America to focus on the area around Cape Cod. Very good condition, archivally restored - cleaned, deacidified, backed with a light-weight tissue for strength and to close any separations or tears. Somewhat tight margin on right side. Matted. Approximately 12.5 x 10.5 inches to the neatlines. **SOLD**
