Antique hand-colored map by Colton, circa 1855, with insets of Yesso and the Japanese Kuriles. Shows regional borders, routes, cities, mountains, and bodies of water. The Colton firm refused to compromise quality, choosing to compete for sales in the finer quality international market rather than the inexpensive domestic one. Because of this, all maps were engraved by steel plates rather than by wax engraving which was the most common method used at this time. Good Antique Condition, paper is toned overall, some wear and small tears at the paper edges. Measures approx. 13 x 16 inches. Priced based on condition.
