Restrike Chart
1853/1970s
Maker: U.S. Coast Survey.
Restrike chart of Wellfleet Harbor. The chart says that it was updated to 1860, however, this chart is a restrike. Restrikes are later prints made using the original printing plates, which means that they are a more authentic “reproduction" than any other type. Many restrikes were made in the 1970s, however it is difficult to know exactly when a restrike was printed. Includes significant coastal detail, as well as bathymetric data, sailing directions, and information on tides. Shows the salt works in Eastham and Orleans and includes Billingsgate Island, which was eroded over time and is now underwater. This chart was mounted to a foam-core board. Very good overall condition, measures approx. 14 x 17.5 inches to the neatline.
