Antique hand colored map of South America by Brion de la Tour, 1766. This lovely map is in French and shows only a few countries in the continent- Peru is much larger than it is today, Chile encompasses the entire southern portion and includes Terre Magellanique where Patagonia is, and Brazil does not have clear boundaries as it merges with Pays de Amazones or Amazon Country. Notable cities are marked. Decorative cartouche and border. Original color. Center fold as issued. Good to very good condition with some slight staining, toning that is darker at paper edges, and a very slight seam separation at bottom (archivally repaired). Measures approx. 9 x 10.25 inches to the neatline and 11.5 x 15.5 inches to the paper edges.
