Maker: Johnson and Ward.
Antique hand colored map of parts of five states in the midwest, published in 1863 by Johnson and Ward. During this time the states in the west and midwest were changing rapidly and maps from this time are like a glimpse back in time. In this map, the Dakotas have not yet been separated into North Dakota and South Dakota, and Montana and Wyoming do not yet exist- Idaho stretches right to Nebraska. This map shows some of the passes through the Rocky mountains, the railroads, the local native tribe names, and the distances by river to other cities in the west. Good to very good overall antique condition with overall toning, and minor foxing and edge tears in margin. approx. 13 x 16 inches **SOLD**
