By Rapkin and Tallis, surrounded by characteristic vignettes and decorated border. Note that the tallest mountain on this map is Dhawalagiri, which is now known as the 7th tallest. This is because the 6 taller mountains had not yet been discovered or measured. The first published height of Everest was not calculated until 1856. The Nile is now known to be the longest river, but on this map it is clear that the source of the Nile had not yet been identified. The longest river on the page appears to be the Yenisey, also romanised as Yenisei, Enisei, or Jenisej in Russia, which we now know is the fifth longest. Good antique condition with some foxing and toning, approx. 10.5 x 13.75 inches.
