Genuine Antique Hand-Colored Map
1876
Maker: Gray.
Antique hand-colored map comparing the world's lakes and islands from "Gray's Atlas of the U.S. with General Maps of the World" 1876. At the time of printing, the first circumnavigation of Lake Victoria, the second largest lake in the world, would have just recently been completed. It is not included on this chart, perhaps because the information had not yet reached map makers. Reverse side has map of North America where Alaska is a territory and most of modern Canada is British possession. Shows political boundaries of the time, cities, land forms, bodies of water, rivers, and islands. Very good condition with minor light spotting and overall toning. Approx. 12 x 15 inches.
