Maker: Reproduction.
High-quality hand-printed and hand colored reproduction of an antique map of the world by John Speed from 1627. Shows the world in hemispheres, with a highly decorative border that includes celestial maps of the northern and southern hemispheres, other astrological charts and diagrams, and personifications of the elements. Features include California as an island, much of North America is unknown, includes Buttons Bay, Australia is unknown, Antarctica is called Magallanica, Korea is an island and Japan is quite round. Made using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods, wherein an original is scanned, its likeness is digitally etched onto an engraving plate, then the plate is used to print the image in the traditional way, with a printing press. The map is then hand colored and mounted onto linen cloth. This map consists of twelve sheets that measure approx. 11.5 x 11.75 inches each with about 1/4 inch of linen visible between them. Total overall dimensions are approx. 35.5 x 46.5 inches to the paper edges. There is about two inches of linen margin beyond the paper that can be folded under when the map is framed. This is a unique and impressive map that would be great fun for anyone who loves maps.
