Maker: Saxton/Hole

Antique map of Gloucestershire, England, based on the first survey of the county by Christopher Saxton, engraved by William Hole and published in William Camden’s Britannia (London: 1607-1637). This particular example comes from the 1637 edition which had the plate number ’12’ added to the bottom left border. Shows towns, cities, hills, notable estates, forests, and more. Handsomely framed. Impressive decorative cartouche and scale of miles. Beautiful hand-coloring. Very good antique condition with some waviness to the antique paper. Measures approx. 11 x 12.25 inches to the neatline and 18.5 x 19.5 inches to the frame edges.
