Antique hand-colored map of Berkshire, a historic county in South East England, by Robert Morden, first published in 1695 and again in 1722. One of the home counties, Berkshire was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II as the Royal County of Berkshire in 1957 because of the presence of Windsor Castle. This map is undated and it is unclear in which edition of Camden's "Britannia: Or a Chorographical Description of Great Britain and Ireland Together with the Adjacent Islands..." this map was published. It shows towns, villages, country estates, roads, and more. Topographic information is depicted pictorially. Elegant hand coloring and a handsome cartouche. Very good condition with minor signs of age, such as toning. Center fold as issued. Mat does not appear to be archival and should be switched. Measures approx. 14 x 16.5 inches to the neatline.
