Early antique map of Washington, D.C. by Stockdale, 1798. This is a reduced and simplified version of Ellicott's plan of 1792. This map was published to accompany the book "Travels Through the States of North America, and the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, During the Years 1795, 1796, and 1797." by Isaac Weld Jr. A few major buildings including the Capitol and Presidents House are labeled; others are merely outlined. The proposed landscape design for the Mall is shown with some detail. Georgetown is labeled. Visible platemark. Very good overall restored condition, this map has been archivally cleaned. Measures approximately 6.75 x 8.5 inches (H x W) to the neatline.
