Genuine Antique Chart

1913

Maker: US Army Corps of Engineers

Antique chart of Beverly Harbor, Massachusetts, published by the War Department / U.S. Army Corps. Of Engineers, 1913. This map was a document in the 63rd Congress. It shows the proposed channel which would be 24 feet deep at mean low water. It includes Salem Neck in the lower right, Salem in the lower left, Essex Bridge, and Beverly. Includes water depths, triangulation stations, and an inset showing the harbor and vicinity. The project is mentioned on the website of the US Army Corps of Engineers: "Beverly Harbor in Beverly lies at the mouth of the Danvers River, about 26 miles north of Boston. Beverly Harbor is a port for the receipt and shipping of commercial petroleum. It is also used extensively by recreational boaters. Initial work in Beverly Harbor during the early 1900s provided for an entrance channel 18 feet deep. The existing project, completed in 1927, consists of a one-mile-long channel, 24 feet deep and 200 feet wide, extending from deep water south of Mackerel Cove to the rock shoal near Essex Bridge (U.S. Route l A). The channel width increases through the bends in the upper channel." This chart is in very good antique condition with minor signs of age including slight toning and a tiny tear at bottom edge. Some minor wear at the fold intersections. Measures approx. 18.75 x 28 inches to the neatline.
