1950 circa
Maker: Redoute / Langloius
Antique botanical print showing Robinia pseud'acacia, common name black locust. Later reprinting of a botanical illustration from Traite Des Arbres Et Arbustes Que Lon Cultive En France En Pleine Terre Artist by Duhamel du Monceau with with hand-colored engravings by the artist Pierre Joseph Redouté. He employed the newly developed process of stipple engraving, a process in which the image was composed of a series of dots on a copper plate. Color was added 'a la poupee'; applied with rags directly to the plate each time the plate is printed. Additional hand-coloring was applied in order to achieve the subtlety of color Redoute desired. Good antique condition with mild toning of the paper, small tears at edges, and some tiny spots. Page measures approximately 13.5 x 10 inches overall. Page has been trimmed by a previous owner. This is a reprint by Langlois.
