Genuine Antique Illustration Print

1854

Maker: Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion

Antique uncolored engraving of a view of the Sand Key Lighthouse from the 1850s, published in Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion, 1854. This lighthouse is 6 nautical miles from Key West. The light tower was completed in 1853. This light was the first to use the hydraulic lamp designed by George Meade. The screw-pile foundation and open framework tower allowed the lighthouse to survive later hurricanes, including one in 1856 that completely washed away all of the island above water. Could be hand colored by our professional colorist for an additional cost. Text explains the design of the lighthouse and other information. The city to the right in the image is Key West. Very good condition with mild signs of age, mild toning. Measures approximately 8" x 10.5" (H x W) to paper edges.
