1880

Maker: Harper's Weekly

Antique black and white print from Harper's Weekly April 10, 1880 showing a view of ships in Gowanus Creek, which was deepend in the mid-19th century to create Gowanus Canal. Despite its relatively short length, the Gowanus Canal was a hub for Brooklyn's maritime and commercial shipping activity. Good to very good antique condition with some smudges, a small tear at top, some mild wrinkling of the old paper, and a slight crease at center. Measures approx. 16.5 x 11 inches to the paper edges. Note: any "rainbows" or strange patterns in the image are called moire effect- caused by taking a digital photo or scan of the many parallel lines in the engraved print- these are not in the print.
