Antique hand colored map by Colton with the state of Michigan and part of the northern peninsula of Michigan. Published in 1887. Shows counties, cities, towns, rivers, lakes, land forms, bodies of water, and railroads. The Colton firm refused to compromise quality, choosing to compete for sales in the finer quality international market rather than the inexpensive domestic one. Because of this, all maps were engraved by steel plates rather than by wax engraving which was the most common method used at this time. Fair antique condition, light water damage mostly outside border, paper is slightly wavy and toned overall, approx. 23.75 x 17.25 inches.
