Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map

1783

Maker: Bonne.

Framed antique hand-colored map outlining the regions of The Twelve Tribes of Israel, by Rigobert Bonne, from Atlas Moderne ou collection de Cartes sur toutes les parties du Glove Terrestre, 1783. This is a handsome map of Israel / Palestine / the Holy Land divided according to the Biblical Twelve Tribes of Israel. It covers the area on both sides of the Jordan River from Sidon to Gaza and Zoara and includes parts of adjacent Egypt, Arabia, and Syria (including Damascus). The map is divided according to the Twelve Tribes of Israel, but also includes the Satrapies of the Philistines, what is today the Gaza Strip. The biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, as well as the 'Caverns of Lot' and other Biblical sites are noted. On the right side are the map's legend as well as a textual analysis of the map in French. Decorative title cartouche features a high priest holding a candelabrum and a Putto playing the harp. In very good condition. With center fold as issued. Frame is also in very good condition. Map measures approx. 12 x 17.5 inches to the neatline. Total size is  approx. 16.5 x 22.5 inches to the outer edges of the frame. Can be shipped unframed for lower shipping cost (map price remains the same).
