1709
Maker: Moll
Antique map of the Roman Empire and vicinity, published by Moll in 1709. This map shows all of Europe, the northern coast of Africa, much of the Middle East, and some parts of Asia. It is based on maps by de l'Isle, and published by Herman Moll with extensive added notes in Latin and English, including one claiming a coin with the image of Caesar Augustus was found in the Americas, suggesting the Romans had traveled that far. Includes two hemisphere maps and two titles with decorative cartouches - one in Latin and one in English. This map is in fair to good condition. It has had some repairs, including a patch in the lower right corner and another patch near the left side cartouche that goes into Spain. It retains all of its character as an antique map with some repaired tears, some minor stains and spots, some wrinkles and creases. Measures approx. 19 x 46 inches to the neatline.
