Antique map engraved by Christopher Weigel c. 1720 showing Dutch theologian Johannes Henricus Coccejus' fascinating bird's-eye view of ancient Jerusalem is based on the "writings of Josephus," the 1st-century Romano-Jewish historian. It depicts the cities of Melchizedek and David, the hills of Betheza and Golgotha, and in the environs, the Mount of Olives, Herod's tomb, and the sites of the encampments of the Assyrians and of Pompeii. At bottom is a letter and number key to identify major sites and monuments. Good to very good antique condition with some minor stains consistent with age, a 4 inch separation along the fold at bottom that has been archivally repaired, some tiny holes in upper center. Meaures approx. 13 x 15.5 inches to the neatline.
