1866
Maker: Johnson and Ward.
Antique hand-colored map showing the formation of the states and territories in the Midwest and West in 1866, by Johnson & Ward. This map shows North and South Dakota as one Dakota, and Wyoming as a brand new territory (the lettering for the name seems like it was scratched in to the plate rather than etched darker like the other states). Wyoming has a small area in the west that it no longer owns. Also shows the beginning of railroads in this area, with a few lines built, and other lines shown as proposed. Also shows the "Emigrant Route" which was the route west. Fair to good condition with seam separation into the map at bottom. Also some mild brown spots. Approx. 17 x 23.25 inches to the outer border edge.
