Antique Map of the Northwest Territory, published by Thomas & Andrews in Morse's Geography, 1796 (engraved by S. Hill), showing the Great Lakes Region and south to Kentucky and Virginia. Notable features of this map include the "Extensive high Plain" in what would become Michigan, the Mississippi River noted "Source unknown", the Missouri River noted "Said to be navigable 1300 Miles", and the note at the left that says, "The dotted squares are the Reservations made by the Indians in their Treaty in 1795, and Ceded to the United States." Chicago is labeled "Chickago", Detroit is present as Fort Detroit, and many other forts are indicated. This map has been professionally and archivally cleaned. Very good to excellent restored condition, with minor signs of age. Measures approx. 7.5 x 9.5 inches to the neatline.
