Maker: Basire/Tindal/Rapin.

Antique black and white battle plan map of Menen, Belgium, fought during the War of the Spanish Succession. From "The History of England, by Mr. Rapin de Thoyras. Continued from the Revolution [of 1688] to the Accession of King George II by N. Tindal" published in 1745. Engraved by I. Basire. The decorative cartouche holds the title and at bottom is a key to the letters on the map showing Batteries of Canon, Batteries of Mortar, Places undermined to blow up the Ravelin, and the Place where the enemy sprung a mine. The city, which lies on the French/Belgian border, was besieged and taken by the Duke of Marlborough's allied Army in August 1706. Good to very good condition with some small archivally repaired tears at the paper edges including some tears that go into the map and a tight margin at top. Folds as issued. Some slight image transfer or ghosting. Approx. 14.5 x 19 inches to the neatline. Page size is approx. 16 x 20
