Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map

1854

Maker: Mitchell/Cowperthwait, Desilver & Butler.

Antique hand colored map, from Mitchell's "New Universal Atlas, Containing Maps of the Various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics of the World, With a Special Map of Each of the United States, Plans of Cities, etc.", 1854. Very good overall antique condition, 16 x 13 inches. This map is similar to MWE151 but careful study reveals differences in the size and shapes of counties in the south and west parts of the state (for example on MWE151 there is a Van Buren county on the west border but on this map it has been divided and renamed to Cass and Vernon Counties). There is also a railroad on this map an no railroad on the older map.
