Antique celestial chart by Matthaus Seutter, circa 1730. Northern and Southern hemispheres show the constellations personified, surrounded by clouds and astronomical diagrams. At bottom are various planetary hypotheses of Tycho Brahe, Copernicus and Ptolemy, as well as the annual orbit of the sun with the four seasons, at top are the creation of the world according to the biblical description, a figural scene with God at center and the planets and sun and moon as putti, and on the upper right is a diagram of the phases of the moon. Beautiful hand-coloring. Handsomely framed. Very good antique condition with some waviness to the antique paper. Measures approx. 19.5 x 22.25 inches to the neatline and 29.5 x 32.25 inches to the frame edges.
