Antique black and white print showing the Naval Review near New York City that was part of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and Columbia Exhibition. The city can be seen in the distance and the viewer is looking towards the ships from Brooklyn.

Originally planned for Washington, technical considerations had changed the site of the fair to Chicago and that of the review to New York. At least twenty other countries were invited to participate in the naval review. Many war ships were sent, as well as replicas of Christopher Columbus' ships the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria, sent by Spain. There is an interesting story of the whole Naval Review written by Joseph C. Mosier called The Naval Rendezvous of 1893. International Naval Reviews have been held on special occasions over the years to celebrate unique historical events. The first review was held in April, 1893 in New York to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America. This print was a four-page spread published in Harper's Weekly on May 6, 1893 and Harper's took the image from a drawing by Victor Perard.

This print has been cleaned and restored, some tears have been repaired and the whole print has been backed in tissue. Very good condition. approx. 12.5 x 42 inches to the print edge (not including the title at bottom). **NOTE- because this map requires extra insurance for shipping, an additional charge will appear on your card after your original purchase. If you would like to know what that charge will be, please contact us.**
