Antique triangulation chart of the Northeast United States from the Hudson River to the St Croix River of Maine at the boundary with Canada. Published in the Annual Report of the US Coast Survey in 1879. Triangulation is the process of determining the location of a point by measuring only angles to it from known points at either end of a fixed baseline. Includes Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshore, and parts of Maine and New York. Notable areas include Long Island, Block Island, Narragansett Bay, Cape Cod and the Islands, Boston Harbor, Cape Ann, Casco Bay, Mount Desert Island, Lake George, and Lake Champlain. With recent hand-coloring designating the state boundaries. Triangulation lines throughout. Folds as issued. Very good antique condition with mild toning that is slightly darker along the fold lines. Measures approx. 22 x 25 inches to the neatline.
