Maker: unknown.
Hand colored antique map showing part of New England with New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia, and part of West Virginia. Interesting features of the map include Vermont as part of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and New Jersey labeled with "Delawares" and New York with Six Nations, both referring to the indigenous people. The maker of this map is unknown (possibly engraved by Boynton?), the map was published in a school geography book c. 1850. An inset map at top shows the vicinity of Quebec and an image depicts the Death of Wolfe, copied from the well-known 1770 painting by Benjamin West depicting the death of British General James Wolfe at the 1759 Battle of Quebec during the French and Indian War. Hand coloring is probably recent, although not done by Maps of Antiquity. Very good condition, with some very light staining at bottom. Approx. 7 x 4.25 inches to neatline.
