Antique map of the Western United States from 1857 by Colton. Original hand-coloring. At this time, California was a state but Washington, Oregon, Utah, and New Mexico were territories. Includes cities, forts, topography (although much was still unknown in areas). From a school geography book and on a page with lesson questions that can be hidden under a mat when framing. On other side of the page are two engraved illustrations relating to California: Gold Digging, and Street in San Francisco. Very good antique condition with toning, some tiny foxing, binding holes at right side of page. Measures approx. 6 x 6 inches to the neatline of the map.
