Genuine Antique Bird's Eye View Map

1871

Maker: Harper's Weekly.

Hand colored antique aerial view pictorial map of New York City and environs, showing an 18-mile circumference, from Harper's Weekly Supplement, May 6, 1871, with an inset of fascinating and somewhat ironic narrative describing the "rapid" transit of the day, and a note that, "The completion of the Brooklyn Bridge will make the transit still more rapid and convenient on that side of the town, and at some future day a tunnel under the Hudson may do the same for the other." Very good overall antique condition, center crease visible, map measures approx. Map 14.5 x 20.5 inches.
