Genuine Antique Print

1861

Maker: Valentine's Manual

Antique black & white lithograph print published in D. T. Valentine's 1861 manual of New York City, shows a view of a modest three story residence; the first home in the city to be lit using gas rather than oil lamps or candles. Although the general public was largely afraid of the potential dangers of using gas to light homes, Samuel Leggett decided to have his own house fitted with gas lighting to demonstrate its safety. Good condition, approximately 7" x 4.5" to the paper edges.
