1868

Maker: Valentine's Manual

Antique black & white lithograph print published in D. T. Valentine's 1868 manual of New York City, shows a view of a pedestrian bridge over the intersection of Broadway and Fulton Street, one of the busiest junctions in the entire city at the time. Fearing that the lack of mobility across streets from traffic would bring down sales, hat shop owner Philip Genin convinced the city to contruct a bridge for the "safety of pedestrians," however just two years later rival hat shop owner Charles Knox sued the city and made them take it down. Good condition, approximately 5.5 x 8.5" to the paper edges.
